First Class Snow All over the French Alps
Weve had around 2 metres snow in the week. The snow was so heavy that ski lifts have been stopped, the train has been stopped at Chamonix and not heading onwards to Les Grands Montets. Several roads have been closed past our luxury chalet and snow announcements published.
Contrast this to a few winters ago, when there was the unusually warm February conditions, rocks showing on the mountainsides, and admonitions that climate change would mean the finish of the ski industry in France. Indeed the study from winter 2006 warned that climate change would make skiing too dear for many snowboarders, with one 3rd of ski fields becoming insolvent and the disappearance of alpine glaciers. Scientists assert that it’s inconceivable to assign the annual variations in the snow conditions to the consequences of global warming.
We could be experiencing the deepest downturn in almost 30 yrs, and the Sterling has dropped to new levels versus the Euro, but the snow is grand, and the latest reservations highlight that people are enthusiastic to enjoy the great skiing conditions. It is undoubtedly the greatest in ten seasons, and many skiers are announcing its the nicest skiing snow in ten seasons.
Even so think that big dumps like these mean raised risks of avalanche.
